Discover Some Unexpected Art in Dallas

You might think there's not much to find in the way of art in West Dallas. But you'd be wrong. There are more than 20 art studios and at least the same number of murals in the neighborhood along Singleton Blvd near Trinity Groves. From Beckley to Sylvan, and Canada Drive to Fabrication street, there's art along Singleton and tucked into little nooks off of surrounding streets.

At 414 Fabrication Street, you'll find one of those little nooks.

ex ovo

From the outside, ex ovo doesn't look like an art gallery, but step inside and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Its current exhibit, Next Exit, features the work of four Dallas area artists. To appreciate, Next Exit, you'll want to experience it, not just see it. It will be on exhibit until December 7th., a website for  Texas visual art, has more detail about the exhibit and the artists.

The artwork in the picture above is a scale replica of the Omni Dallas Hotel by Jonathan Molina-Garcia. Its working lights mimic those on the hotel but with alternate messaging from Molina-Garcia.

Dallaxy Mural

The building next door to the gallery has murals on all sides. This one, by W Heron Art is called Dallaxy. His take on the Pegaus icon was originally painted on another building in West Dallas that has since been torn down.

Behind this house, you'll find Fabrication Studios in the striped house shown in the cover photo at the top of this page.

Sweet Pass Sculpture Park

Continue to the next lot on Fabrication Street and you'll arrive at Sweet Pass Sculpture Park. Its current exhibit is called Bush League, presented by Bux Toof. The photo above shows three of the works on display. Bleachers (front), 42 FBI Files (top left), and Giant Sunflower Seed (center.)

A wall at the back of the park serves as an outdoor movie screen, pictured in the cover photo above. It was recently decorated with a mural by Mariel Pohlman. Follow @marpohl on Instagram to see more of her mural art all around Dallas.

Wild West (Dallas) Murals

On the way to and from the little art nook I've described, I passed several murals in progress. They were painted as part of the second annual Wild West Mural Fest in conjunction with Arts Walk West. Follow @wildwestmuralfest on Instagram so you'll be in the know about all the murals in the area. You won't want to miss next year's fest.
